Lewis County Parole Versus Probation

Parole and probation can both place a person in the community, but they begin in different ways. Parole follows a term of incarceration. The sentence remains active while the person follows a certificate of release and reports as directed. The Tennessee Board of Parole decides whether parole is granted when the law permits it. The Tennessee Department of Correction, or TDOC, then handles community supervision.

Probation comes from a sentencing court. It may replace confinement or follow a period of split confinement, which means part of a sentence is served in custody and the rest under supervision. A person released from Lewis County Jail on bond is not automatically on either form of supervision. Likewise, leaving jail because a charge was dismissed does not create parole. The order, TDOC status, and supervising location must agree.

Discharge

The documented end of supervision, not merely release from a facility.

Absconded

A TDOC status indicating failure to report. It is not proof that supervision ended.

Split confinement

A sentence divided between custody and probation in the community.

Release Eligibility Date

The earliest date an eligible person may be considered for parole, not a promised exit date.

Check Lewis County Supervision Status

The main public state channel is the TDOC Felony Offender Information Lookup, known as FOIL. It covers people currently or formerly in TDOC felony custody or supervision. It does not include every Lewis County arrest, misdemeanor, bond release, or short jail stay. Search by name, TDOC or TOMIS ID, or State ID. The name form offers last and first name, optional alias and race fields, and a case-sensitive CAPTCHA.

1. Choose the correct FOIL search method and complete the CAPTCHA.
2. Compare several identifiers before opening a record for a person with a common name.
3. Read status and location together. A field office can be the location for a person living in the community.
4. Distinguish Parole or Probation from Inactive, Incarcerated, Out on Bond, and Absconded.
5. Use the court order or TDOC records request if the public entry is missing, unclear, or stale.

FOIL's official definitions matter. Incarcerated means the person remains in custody. Parole or Probation shows active community supervision. Inactive means the person is no longer under TDOC supervision. Out on Bond reflects release pending further action. Absconded indicates a reporting failure, not a new conviction and not a discharge. A blank result proves none of these things. The case may never have entered TDOC, or the name and identifier may not match.

The official FOIL field definitions show how Tennessee uses those labels. The screen may also present offense, sentence, location, release, and parole-hearing information. Transcribe the live label rather than converting it into a broader claim. For county-only supervision, ask the Lewis County Circuit Court Clerk for the probation order, revocation order, and any later satisfaction or discharge entry.

Lewis County Probation Office Route

TDOC District 51 serves Lewis, Maury, and Perry Counties. The TDOC field office directory identifies the office that handles Lewis County parole and felony probation routing. A FOIL entry that names a community office supports a finding that the person is supervised outside prison. It does not disclose every condition or authorize a third party to direct the person's reporting.

Current instructions should come from the person's paperwork or the office. TDOC says people placed on probation or released from split confinement must report to the probation or parole officer within 48 hours, but the individual order and current agency direction control. Office staff may confirm general routing while limiting person-specific details.

Use that official directory when an older address or a location in a third-party listing conflicts with the current state entry.

Lewis County Parole Hearing Records

A parole hearing is not a release appointment. Hearing officers make nonbinding recommendations, and Board members adopt, change, or reject them under the required vote rules. The Board describes grant, revocation, rescission, time-setting, custodial, and appeal proceedings. Even a final grant can await an approved release plan and issuance of the certificate that carries the person's conditions.

The Tennessee Board of Parole hearing page says schedules for state prisons and county jails are updated weekly, generally Monday or Tuesday after a Monday holiday. The current schedule is requested at BD.HearingSchedules@tn.gov. Older indexed calendars should not be treated as current. A schedule can identify the offender, TDOC number, hearing type, date, and facility.

No separate public decisions database was verified. Board Operations processes final dispositions and certificates. When FOIL is not enough, request the offender or hearing file and final disposition. Lewis County Supervision Violations

Conditions are person-specific. They can appear on a parole certificate, probation order, or later court or agency directive. A public record should not be used to guess a condition that has not been documented. The high-level status tells only part of the story. A revocation proceeding can result in revoked or restored supervision, and a pending warrant may not yet be reflected in every public system.

Absconded is an official FOIL status for failure to report. It does not mean the sentence expired. It also does not, by itself, prove that a new offense occurred. Check FOIL, then ask the appropriate court or agency for the warrant, violation, or revocation record. Tennessee's offender registries answer a different question. A record in the TBI Sex Offender Registry can show an offense-specific registration duty after custody, but it does not prove parole, probation, or a Lewis County release date. Absence is equally limited because most people are not subject to that registry.

Lewis County Mental Health Supervision

The 32nd Judicial District Mental Health Court adds a distinct local layer for eligible participants from Lewis, Hickman, and Perry Counties. It operates from the Lewis County Justice Center at 29 West Main Street in Hohenwald. Published numbers are (931) 231-8343 and (931) 628-3099. This is not a general parole office, a release lookup, or a program for every person leaving Lewis County Jail.

The 32nd Judicial District Mental Health Court policy describes court review, participant oversight, and work with probation, Centerstone, and other stakeholders. Eligibility and participation must come from the court process. A person may have a program obligation alongside probation, but the program should not be assumed from a FOIL status alone.

For record verification, obtain the controlling court order and later entries from the Lewis County Circuit Court Clerk. Those records can explain a local supervision requirement that a short state database label cannot. The physical jail release and the court-supervision plan remain separate events.

Note: The mental health court is a specific judicial program, not a substitute for District 51 or the Board of Parole.

Lewis County Supervision Discharge

Supervision ends through a documented discharge, completion, sentence expiration, or other controlling action. Release from incarceration is not enough. A FOIL status of Inactive can support the conclusion that TDOC supervision ended, but the underlying record is stronger when an exact date or legal basis matters. For probation, obtain the court's satisfaction or discharge entry. For parole, use the TDOC or Board disposition and certificate records.

Tennessee Code § 10-7-503 and the state's public-record guidance provide the route to request existing records from the custodian. Inspection is ordinarily free for a qualified Tennessee citizen, while copies and labor may carry reasonable fees under the agency's policy. The custodian does not have to calculate a new end date or answer a broad legal question. Ask narrowly for the final discharge summary, face sheet, final disposition, or supervision-completion entry.
